Jared Leto Says ‘I Have Never Sexually Assaulted Anyone’ Amid New Allegations: ‘These Claims Are Categorically False’

Jared Leto, the Oscar-winning actor and frontman of the band Thirty Seconds to Mars, has strongly denied a new wave of sexual misconduct allegations detailed in a BBC documentary. The film, titled "Jared Leto: Hollywood's Darkest Secret," premiered on Wednesday and features accounts from ten women who describe inappropriate behavior by the 54-year-old artist. Four of the accusers claim the alleged incidents occurred while they were teenagers. One woman states she was assaulted by Leto in a motel bathroom at age 17, while another alleges he threatened her with sexual assault when she was 19. A third woman describes what she says was consensual sex with Leto in California at age 17—an act that, under state law, constitutes statutory rape due to the age of consent. A fourth accuser claims Leto made repeated sexually explicit phone calls to her when she was 16 and, on at least one occasion, suggested they engage in intercourse.

All alleged interactions are said to have occurred between 2002 and 2016, a period when Leto was in his 30s and 40s. In a statement provided by his representatives, the actor said: "I have never sexually assaulted anyone in my entire life. These claims are absolutely and categorically false." Leto, who won an Academy Award for his role in "Dallas Buyers Club" and is also known for his work in "Requiem for a Dream" and "Suicide Squad," has a history of facing scrutiny over his behavior, though he has consistently maintained his innocence. The BBC has stated that it verified "a number of the women's accounts with friends and family who were told about the encounters with Leto at the time," and in some cases, reviewed photographs and messages that "support the women's accounts." This is not the first time Leto has faced such allegations. In 2024, DJ Allie Teilz publicly accused him of sexual misconduct on social media, claiming he assaulted her when she was 17. That accusation prompted several other women to come forward in an investigation by Air Mail, published in June 2025, in which Leto also denied all allegations.

The documentary has reignited discussions about accountability in Hollywood, particularly regarding the treatment of young women by powerful figures. Experts in media ethics have noted that the BBC's corroboration of some accounts could lend credibility to the claims, though no legal charges have been filed against Leto. "The pattern of allegations spanning over a decade, combined with supporting evidence from friends and family, is significant," said Dr. Emily Carter, a media studies professor at the University of Southern California, in an interview.
