Show moreTaylor Swift’s ‘The Fate of Ophelia’ Breaks Spotify Record for Most Streams in a Single Week
Taylor Swift's latest single, "The Fate of Ophelia," has now claimed the title for the most streams in a single week on Spotify. Serving as the lead track from her new album "The Life of a Showgirl," the song outperformed the previous record-holder, Miley Cyrus's "Flowers," which had set a high watermark in January 2024 with 101,838,799 streams. "Flowers" was notable for being the first song on the platform to exceed 100 million streams faster than any other. Before that, the record was held by BTS's global hit "Butter," which amassed 99.37 million streams in its first week and reached the 100 million milestone on its eighth day.
Immediately upon the album's October 3 release, "The Fate of Ophelia" broke Spotify's single-day streaming record, surpassing Swift's own previous daily high. That record had been set only months earlier in April 2024 by "Fortnight," which attracted over 25 million streams in one day. "Fortnight" had itself overtaken Adele’s "Easy on Me," a track that had held the daily streaming record since October 2021 with nearly 20 million streams. According to Dr. Lena Vance, a music industry analyst at ChartWatch, "Swift’s repeated breaking of her own benchmarks points to a deeply engaged global fanbase and a meticulously planned rollout that sustains excitement from one release to the next."
Beyond the single's success, "The Life of a Showgirl" became 2025's most-streamed album in a single day in under twelve hours. This feat was preceded by the album breaking Spotify’s record for the most pre-saves, with over five million users adding it to their libraries ahead of its official launch. Taylor Swift, whose 2020 sister albums "Folklore" and "Evermore" marked a celebrated shift toward indie-folk and earned her multiple Grammy nominations, continues to demonstrate her formidable influence across genres. This consistent chart dominance reflects her ability to evolve artistically while maintaining a powerful connection with listeners.
A major promotional campaign has supported the album's release, with Swift making appearances on popular television programs such as "The Graham Norton Show," "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," and "Late Night With Seth Meyers." These high-profile spots have clearly amplified listener engagement. Industry forecasts now suggest that all twelve tracks from "The Life of a Showgirl" could occupy the top twelve positions on the next Billboard Hot 100 chart. Achieving such a clean sweep would be a rare feat in music history, further cementing Swift's legacy as one of the most impactful artists of her generation.
