A$AP Rocky Sings With His Eyeball, Winona Ryder Rocks a Beavis and Butthead T-Shirt in Surreal New Video for ‘Punk Rocky’

The surreal and comedic new music video for A$AP Rocky's track "Punk Rocky," featuring actress Winona Ryder, represents a creative peak for the artist, eclipsing even the trippy visuals of his seminal "LSD" video from ten years prior. Created for a song on his highly anticipated album "Don't Be Dumb," the clip depicts a wildly eccentric scene: Rocky, wearing pink hair rollers and accompanied by a singing eyeball, practices with his punk band in a garage. Ryder, portraying his neighbor in a Beavis and Butt-Head shirt, observes with enjoyment while snacking on blackberries, until the peace is shattered by a noise complaint. This high-concept approach is becoming a hallmark for Rocky, whose creative agency AWGE is renowned for merging music, high fashion, and avant-garde film.

In the video, five of the six alter egos from the forthcoming album are introduced, such as Rocky's GR1M persona alongside characters like RUGAHAND and BABUSHKA BOI. The production boasts notable cameos beyond Ryder, including composer Danny Elfman—famous for his scores for Tim Burton films—musician Thundercat, and A$AP Nast. Co-directed by Rocky alongside the directing duo Folkert Verdoorn and Simon Becks, collectively called the Three Musketeers, the video was produced by Magna Studios, Freenjoy, and AWGE. Industry observers note that such star-studded, narrative-driven videos help sustain audience engagement during long album cycles, a strategy Rocky has mastered.

Interestingly, the song itself provides a more restrained, indie-rock backdrop that starkly contrasts with the video's chaotic performance, yet remains a strong standalone composition. It was co-written by Rocky with contributors including Cristoforo Donadi [Ghost] and Adam King Feeney [Ging]. The track is part of "Don't Be Dumb," which marks Rocky's first full-length album in eight years, following 2015's "At.Long.Last.A$AP." That prior release was a critical and commercial success, debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 and solidifying his reputation beyond the hip-hop world.

The upcoming album's cover art was created by iconic filmmaker Tim Burton, signaling the project's gothic and whimsical aesthetic. This collaboration is a natural fit, given Burton's signature style and Elfman's involvement. "Don't Be Dumb" is scheduled for release on January 16, promising to blend Rocky's musical evolution with his distinct visual storytelling.
