Show more‘The Masked Singer’ Reveals Identity of Pangolin: Here is the Celebrity Under the Costume
The latest semi-final episode of Fox's "The Masked Singer" saw another celebrity identity revealed. On March 25, following a final performance, the Pangolin was unmasked as Rachel Platten. The singer-songwriter is most famous for her 2015 hit "Fight Song," an empowerment anthem that became a global phenomenon. Panelist Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg was the sole judge to guess correctly, with others suggesting names like Lea Michele or Michelle Branch. The Pangolin's concluding clue featured boxing gloves, with Platten remarking, "I like to stand strong in a fight. Especially when it counts." Her run on the show included renditions of Roxette's "It Must Have Been Love" and tracks by both Alanis Morissette and rock icon Ozzy Osbourne.
Platten's exit narrows the field to four finalists: Galaxy Girl, Cat Witch, Pugcasso, and Crane. She now joins other unveiled celebrities from this season, such as actor and musician Billy Ray Cyrus—father of pop star Miley Cyrus—actress Taraji P. Henson, and reality TV personalities Todd and Julie Chrisley. Hosted by Nick Cannon, the series features a judging panel of McCarthy-Wahlberg, Ken Jeong, Rita Ora, and Robin Thicke. A key innovation this season is "America's Insider," a role played in disguise by social media star Kylie Cantrall as Cat Witch, which gives the home audience exclusive behind-the-scenes clues the panel cannot see.
The remaining contestants delivered strong performances paired with personal revelations. Galaxy Girl, whose clues hint at a link to judge Robin Thicke and a famous parent, performed Whitney Houston's "Run to You." Cat Witch, connected to host Nick Cannon, sang Paramore's "Misery Business" and shared a journal entry about her mother's impact. Pugcasso, suggesting a past professional link to Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg, performed Teddy Swims's "Bad Dreams" and spoke about balancing fame with a stable family life. Crane, indicating she once competed on a TV show with Rita Ora, delivered a version of Ariana Grande's "Break Free" and discussed using music to support her parents during illness.
This season has incorporated several themed nights, including tributes to "Star Trek," "Clueless," and an "Ozzfest Night" honoring Ozzy Osbourne—a theme that aligned with Pangolin's performance of his ballad "Mama, I'm Coming Home." The initial roster of 18 celebrities boasts a combined 94 million records sold and numerous award nominations, underscoring the show's draw of established talent. As media analyst Dr. Lena Shaw observes, "The clue packages have evolved into a sophisticated narrative device. The personal stories they reveal are now instrumental in building viewer investment, often rivaling the musical performances for emotional impact."
The season finale will soon crown a new champion to join past victors like Wayne Brady, Jewel, and last season's winner, country artist Gretchen Wilson. "The Masked Singer," executive produced by Nick Cannon and adapted from the South Korean program "King of Mask Singer," successfully merges musical spectacle with mystery, ensuring audience speculation continues right up to the final reveal.
