Show moreElectronic Musician Rezz Cancels Coachella Weekend Two Performance Due to Health Issues
Canadian electronic musician Rezz has canceled her upcoming second-weekend appearance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, citing pressing health issues. The artist, whose real name is Isabelle Rezazadeh, revealed on social media that she made the tough choice to pull out of her Sahara Tent slot after disregarding ongoing physical signals. "For some time, my body has been hinting that a genuine rest is necessary, yet I kept going under the assumption everything would be okay," her statement read. "I must now prioritize my well-being to deal with matters that require attention."
Rezz, recognized for her iconic glowing spiral eyewear, thanked fans for their support and mentioned she will post her first-weekend Coachella performance online. She described the set as an accomplishment she feels "incredibly proud of" and confirmed it will be available on her YouTube channel soon. Her departure follows the release of her "A Shift in Perspective" EP mere days before the festival, compounding a packed professional calendar. This pattern of cancellations at Coachella 2024—including last-minute dropouts from the punk act Lambrini Girls and producer Anyma—illustrates the immense pressures artists face. Industry observers point out that electronic performers like Rezz, who deliver intense audiovisual spectacles, are particularly susceptible to burnout from relentless touring schedules.
The festival's first weekend already witnessed significant lineup changes. Prior to opening day, the UK-based punk group Lambrini Girls withdrew after their vocalist suffered a fractured neck and a serious brain injury. Then, in a sudden Friday night development, the techno producer Anyma scrapped his planned midnight Main Stage headline performance just fifteen minutes before he was due to begin, blaming hazardous severe weather. These incidents collectively highlight the unpredictable challenges of organizing massive outdoor events, where artist health and safety can abruptly alter plans.
Over the last ten years, Rezz has cultivated a loyal following, known as the "Cult of Rezz," with her unique style of mid-tempo, hypnotic bass music and full-sensory stage shows. Her rise from uploading tracks online to headlining major festivals underscores the demanding nature of contemporary music careers. She ended her announcement by focusing on the path ahead: "I love you all and hope for your understanding. My healing will be a journey. Thank you, Coachella—I'm grateful I performed last weekend, and now it's time to concentrate on getting better." This emphasis on recovery resonates in an industry increasingly grappling with discussions around performer sustainability and mental health.
