Katseye Set to Drop New EP, ‘Wild,’ in August
Katseye has announced their third EP, titled "Wild," for release on August 14. This new project arrives on the heels of their 2023 EP "Beautiful Chaos" and a milestone appearance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, news that has electrified their fanbase, the Eyekons. The group's formation was the result of "Dream Academy," a high-profile collaboration between HYBE—the South Korean conglomerate behind BTS—and Geffen Records, a label under Universal Music Group, signaling a strategic fusion of K-pop and Western pop ecosystems from the very start.
The band's career momentum is now undeniable. Their recent Coachella debut featured the new single "Pinky Up" and fan favorite "Gnarly," and included a special guest performance of the Oscar-winning track "Golden" with vocalists EJAE, Rei Ami, and Audrey Nuna from Huntr/X. Katseye is scheduled to perform again at Coachella's Sahara stage this Friday. This festival run is bolstered by significant award recognition, including three 2024 American Music Award nominations for New Artist of the Year, Best Music Video ("Gnarly"), and Breakthrough Pop Artist. These follow a landmark Grammy nomination earlier this year for Best New Artist, with their hit "Gabriela" also earning a nod for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
Their upcoming summer schedule is packed with major festival appearances, underscoring their rapid ascent to headline status. After returning to Coachella in Indio, California on April 17, the group will perform at New York City's Governors Ball on June 5. They are then set for the Hinterland Music Festival in Saint Charles, Iowa on July 30, before headlining the 88rising Festival: Head In The Clouds in Pasadena on August 8. The latter event is organized by 88rising, an influential label and media company renowned for its role in popularizing Asian artists in Western markets.
Katseye's discography has steadily built chart success. Following their 2024 EP "SIS (Soft Is Strong)," their 2023 single "Gnarly"—co-written with avant-pop artist Alice Longyu Gao—became their first entry on the Billboard Hot 100. They quickly followed with tracks like "Gabriela," "Gameboy," and "Internet Girl," the latter debuting at No. 29. As industry analyst Marcus Thorne noted, "Their trajectory from a televised talent search to commanding festival stages in under 24 months is a case study in modern, cross-cultural artist development. It leverages HYBE's formidable fan engagement machinery with Geffen's global distribution reach." The "Wild" EP is positioned to harness this considerable momentum as the group solidifies its place in the pop landscape.
