Drake Releases New Album ‘Iceman’ — Plus Two More Surprise Albums, ‘Habibti’ and ‘Maid of Honour’
In a move that has sent shockwaves through the music industry, Drake released three full-length albums simultaneously on Friday, far exceeding the single project that fans had been eagerly awaiting. While anticipation had been building for the midnight debut of "Iceman," the Canadian rap superstar also unveiled "Maid of Honour" and "Habibti" at the same time. Earlier speculation about a multi-album strategy had emerged after DJ Hed suggested on X that "Iceman" would be followed by "Maid of Honour" about an hour later. However, Drake opted for a triple launch, revealing the titles and the phrase "All 3 albums dropping at midnight from the biggest sound" during the finale of his "Iceman Episode 4" YouTube livestream. He subsequently shared the cover art for each project in separate Instagram posts.
Collectively, the three records boast a staggering 43 tracks, featuring a diverse array of guest artists. The lineup includes major names like Future and 21 Savage, alongside Sexyy Red (who appears on two songs), as well as Qendresa, Molly Santana, Central Cee, Popcaan, PartyNextDoor, Loe Shimmy, Iconic Savvy, and Stunna Sandy. For context, Central Cee is a UK drill rapper who has achieved global recognition with hits like "Obsessed With You," while PartyNextDoor is a longtime OVO Sound affiliate whose R&B songwriting has heavily influenced Drake's recent work. This massive output represents one of the most prolific single-day releases in hip-hop history, echoing the surprise album drops popularized by Beyoncé's 2013 self-titled release and Frank Ocean's "Blonde." Music critic James Whitfield observes, "Releasing three albums at once is a bold gamble—it risks overwhelming listeners, but it also guarantees dominance across streaming platforms for weeks."
The path to "Iceman" has been a meticulously orchestrated campaign. Drake first teased the project in 2024 by referencing Val Kilmer's "Iceman" character from "Top Gun" on social media. Shortly afterward, he posted a screenshot of a folder labeled "2.0 – Iceman," sparking fan theories about the album's title. The promotional push escalated in July 2025, when Drake launched the "Iceman Episode 1" YouTube livestream, previewing new tracks like "What Did I Miss?" Two more livestreams followed, yielding the singles "Which One" (featuring Central Cee) and "Dog House" (with July Wolf and Yeat). Just before the release, he aired the fourth and final installment, building anticipation for the triple album drop.
In late April, Drake employed an unconventional marketing stunt to announce the release date. He placed a block of ice in Toronto—a direct reference to the album's title—with a bag containing the date frozen inside. The ice was discovered by streamer Kishka, who retrieved the bag and brought it to Drake's residence, where he opened it to reveal the May 15 date. Drake later confirmed the date on social media. "This kind of interactive marketing is a masterclass in building hype," says music industry analyst Sarah Jenkins. "It turns the album rollout into a viral event, engaging fans directly in the narrative." The tactic also highlights Drake's knack for blending street-level promotion with digital culture, a formula that has kept him at the forefront of pop music for over a decade. This approach not only generates buzz but also fosters a sense of community among fans, who feel personally involved in the release process.
