Show moreBulgaria Wins 2026 Eurovision Song Contest as U.K. Comes Last With One Point
Bulgaria has claimed victory at the 70th Eurovision Song Contest, with Dara securing the top spot for her song "Banagaranga." The young singer amassed a total of 516 points, edging out a strong field of competitors in a contest held at the Wiener Stadthalle in Vienna, Austria. The event, themed "United by Music," marked seven decades since the competition first launched in 1956, cementing its status as the world's longest-running annual international televised music competition. Dara's win represents only the second time Bulgaria has taken the Eurovision crown, following their debut victory in 2018.
Israel's Noam Bettan finished as the runner-up with 343 points for his track "Michelle," while Romania's Alexandra Căpitănescu secured third place with 296 points. The top five was rounded out by Australia's Delta Goodrem, whose song "Eclipse" earned 287 points for fourth place, and Italy's Sal Da Vinci, who placed fifth with 281 points for "Per Sempre Sì." This year's voting system maintained the balance between professional juries and public televotes across the 35 participating countries, with each group's scores weighted equally. Notably, this was the second consecutive year that Israel finished in second place, following Yuval Raphael's performance of "New Day Will Rise" in the previous contest.
The competition was not without controversy, as five countries chose to boycott the event amid ongoing geopolitical tensions, though organizers pushed forward with the planned format. Last year's winner, Switzerland's JJ, was on hand to pass the iconic glass trophy to Dara. JJ had triumphed in 2025 with "Waster Love," accumulating 436 points. Eurovision experts noted that Dara's victory underscores a shift toward more diverse musical styles in the contest, with "Banagaranga" blending traditional Balkan folk elements with modern pop production. The Bulgarian delegation celebrated the win as a milestone for the nation's music industry, with Dara expected to embark on a European tour following her triumph in Vienna.
