A$AP Rocky to Be Honored With Inaugural Tribeca X Filmmaker of the Year Award; Full Programming Lineup Released (EXCLUSIVE)

The Tribeca Festival has announced that A$AP Rocky will be the first-ever recipient of the Tribeca X Filmmaker of the Year Award. This newly created honor serves as a cornerstone of the event's programming dedicated to brand-supported storytelling, acknowledging the rapper's wide-ranging impact across music, fashion, film, design, and brand narratives. The award highlights a larger industry shift where artists increasingly transcend conventional boundaries to shape cultural conversations. Dr. Sarah Chen, an industry analyst at the Media Innovation Lab, commented, "This recognition reflects a transformative shift in how the entertainment world values cross-platform creativity, placing it above accomplishments limited to a single field." A$AP Rocky, born Rakim Mayers, gained widespread attention with his 2013 debut album 'Long. Live. A$AP', which entered the Billboard 200 at number one, and he has since established himself as a key figure in both luxury fashion and film projects. His ventures include collaborations with brands like Gucci and Dior, as well as acting roles in movies such as 'Dope' and 'Monster', further cementing his status as a multifaceted creative force.

The Tribeca X summit is set to take place on June 8-9 at Spring Studios as part of the 25th annual Tribeca Festival, exploring how brands and entertainment leaders are developing innovative approaches to storytelling. Rebecca Glashow, CEO of Tribeca Enterprises, noted that the program was created to recognize individuals who are redefining modern narratives. "Today's cultural landscape is being shaped by artists and entrepreneurs who push creative boundaries across various mediums and industries," Glashow stated. "A$AP Rocky perfectly represents the genre-defying visionary this award was designed to celebrate." She added that brands and creators are now actively producing, financing, and distributing premium entertainment, rather than merely influencing culture, as storytelling evolves across different platforms and technologies. The Tribeca Festival, established in 2002 by Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal, and Craig Hatkoff to rejuvenate Lower Manhattan following the September 11 attacks, has developed into a prominent cultural event known for supporting diverse voices in film, music, and technology. Over the years, it has premiered acclaimed works like 'The Imposter' and 'Zero Dark Thirty', solidifying its reputation as a launchpad for groundbreaking content.

The 2026 speaker lineup includes a varied group of notable figures. Comedian and actor Cedric the Entertainer will share insights on his entrepreneurial activities, such as executive producing the series "Kings of BBQ" and introducing his wine brand, Setta Wines. Brooklyn Peltz Beckham, the son of David and Victoria Beckham, will join chef Claire Saffitz to discuss his international culinary venture, Cloud23. David and Finn Droga will examine the shift in creativity from advertising to independent filmmaking, while reality TV personality Paige DeSorbo will talk about building her fashion-focused loungewear line, Daphne. Tony and Emmy Award-winning actress Judith Light will address the role of advocacy in her career. Dhar Mann, founder of Dhar Mann Studios, will engage in a conversation with Wall Street Journal reporter Katie Deighton about how creator-led production companies are transforming entertainment. Michelle Khare will discuss turning her YouTube channel into an in-house production company alongside Christopher Rosen. "Chewed Up" hosts Michael Symon and Clinton Kelly will explore creative ownership with Business Insider’s Lucia Moses. Stagwell executive David Sable will meet with Antonio and Irene Lucio to analyze the evolution of storytelling. Elizabeth Rutledge, CMO of American Express, will have a dialogue with Ad Age Editor-in-Chief Jeanine Poggi. Emmy-winning TV host Zuri Hall will moderate a panel with "NBA on Prime Video" host Taylor Rooks and Aurora James, founder of Brother Vellies and the Fifteen Percent Pledge, a nonprofit supporting Black-owned businesses.
