Show morePrince Estate to Release ‘Timeless,’ a Rarities Album Spanning the Artist’s Entire Career
Prince’s fabled “Vault” remains one of the most tantalizing troves in music history, overflowing with unreleased recordings that can overwhelm even dedicated fans. For context, the deluxe box set dedicated solely to his landmark 1987 album “Sign O’ the Times” spanned eight CDs yet still omitted more than half of its outtakes. Now, the late artist’s estate is charting a more accessible course with “Timeless,” a compact 10-song collection featuring previously unheard tracks drawn from across Prince’s entire career—from 1977 through the year of his death in 2016. The album arrives August 28, 2026, via the estate’s partnership with Sony’s Legacy Recordings, marking a revival of the reissue series that had slowed in recent years.
The announcement coincides with the release of a new single, “Stone,” a previously unreleased recording from spring 1995 co-written by Sandra St. Victor, Tom Hammer, and Jules Van Even. The project is tied to Prince Celebration 2026, the annual fan event taking place June 3–7 across Paisley Park and downtown Minneapolis. This year’s gathering serves as the official launch platform for “Timeless,” offering exclusive listening sessions, archival presentations, and conversations with Prince collaborators. A highlight includes a special event at The Armory in Minneapolis on Friday, June 5, featuring appearances from NPG, The Revolution’s Bobby Z, Lisa Coleman, and others. Notably, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey has proclaimed June 1–7 as “Prince Celebration Week,” with the city’s skyline bathed in purple on June 6—the evening before Prince’s birthday.
“Timeless” will be released in multiple physical formats, including a D2C-exclusive limited-edition Purple Marble Vinyl, standard black vinyl, and CD. The estate previewed the collection earlier this year with “With This Tear,” released on April 2. Originally recorded at Paisley Park in November 1991, the track is a complete solo performance by Prince. The full tracklist spans decades: “I Am You” (1977), “Tick Tick Bang” (1981), “Heaven” (1985), “I Wonder” (1989), “With This Tear” (1991), “Stone” (1995), “Calabama” (2003), “The Guilty Ones” (2007), “Bestest Friend” (2012), and “How Come You Don’t Call Me Anymore? (Live)” (2016). Music historian Dr. Aisha Reynolds notes, “This curated approach offers a rare glimpse into Prince’s evolving sound across four decades, making the vault feel less intimidating and more like a guided tour.” The collection underscores the estate’s ongoing effort to balance accessibility with the deep reverence Prince’s legacy commands.
