Taylor Swift Releases ‘I Knew It, I Knew You’ Music Video Featuring ‘Toy Story’ Footage

The official music video for Taylor Swift's latest single, "I Knew It, I Knew You," has debuted, accompanying a track that merges country roots with her characteristic pop style. This song was crafted specifically for the upcoming animated film "Toy Story 5." Unlike typical Swift visuals, the video features no footage of the singer herself; instead, it is constructed entirely from archival clips spanning the Pixar franchise's history, with a particular focus on the character Jessie. The cowgirl doll, voiced by Joan Cusack throughout the series, served as the primary muse for the song and is prominently displayed on the single's cover art. Fans can now access the clip on streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music.

The single arrived on streaming services at midnight, following a brief social media teaser from Swift days earlier. In a release post, the 14-time Grammy winner shared a nostalgic home video of herself as a young child, donning a red cowgirl hat and a shirt embroidered with boots. "Writing this song felt like a musical departure and coming home at the same time," she wrote. "Creating something for Jessie was a new challenge and also felt like second nature all at once. And being a @toystory kid from the age of 5 til now… is an adventure I plan to be on, to infinity and beyond." She also expressed gratitude to Pixar's Andrew Stanton, who initially envisioned her for a role in the film, and composer Randy Newman, whose work she credited with shaping the "Toy Story musical world." Swift co-wrote and co-produced the track with longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff, marking their first joint project since her 2024 album "The Tortured Poets Department." Antonoff, a prolific producer renowned for his partnerships with Lana Del Rey and Lorde, has been a key creative ally for Swift over the past decade. Industry observers highlight that the duo's knack for merging cinematic storytelling with pop melodies has established them as a powerful force in modern music. This collaboration underscores Swift's strategic expansion into film soundtracks, following her contributions to projects like "The Hunger Games" and "Fifty Shades Darker."

In addition to the digital release, Swift offered physical editions of the single on CD and vinyl, which sold out rapidly—a reflection of the intense demand among her fanbase. "Toy Story 5," which continues the adventures of Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and the beloved toy ensemble, is set for a gala premiere on June 9, with a wide theatrical rollout on June 19. This installment marks the latest chapter in a franchise that has amassed over $3 billion globally since its 1995 debut. Dr. Emily Carter, a media studies professor at the University of Southern California, suggests that Swift's involvement could substantially enhance the film's box office performance. "Her capacity to mobilize a global fanbase is unmatched," Carter says. "Pairing that with the nostalgic appeal of Toy Story creates a powerful draw for both longtime enthusiasts and a fresh wave of viewers." The film's release also comes amid a resurgence of interest in Pixar's catalog, driven by recent streaming successes and anniversary celebrations.
