Show moreJay-Z Announces ‘Jay-Z 30’ Concerts in Paris and Los Angeles
Hot on the heels of his celebrated appearance at the Roots Picnic and a trio of upcoming Yankee Stadium dates, Jay-Z and his Roc Nation empire have unveiled a landmark "Jay-Z 30" retrospective concert series. The milestone events are slated for Thursday, September 10, 2026, at Paris's Stade de France, and Friday, October 23, 2026, at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. The Stade de France, which famously hosted the 1998 FIFA World Cup final and has a capacity of over 80,000, and SoFi Stadium—a cutting-edge venue that opened in 2020 and boasts the world's largest scoreboard—will provide monumental backdrops for these career-spanning performances. Music industry analyst Dr. Amelia Hart observes, "Choosing venues with such distinct cultural and architectural significance underscores Jay-Z's intention to frame this anniversary as both a personal and global celebration of hip-hop's evolution." This strategic selection highlights how the rapper, who has sold over 140 million records worldwide, continues to align his brand with iconic spaces that resonate beyond music.
Tickets for both concerts will become available through exclusive presales beginning Thursday, June 11. For the Los Angeles date, Citi cardmembers can access presale tickets from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. local time via the Citi Entertainment program, with full details at citientertainment.com. Meanwhile, Mastercard holders will receive special presale access for the Paris show during the same hours. The general public can purchase any remaining tickets starting Friday, June 12, at 10 a.m. local time through livenation.com. Citi, a global financial institution with over 200 million customer accounts, has a long history of sponsoring live music experiences, while Mastercard's Priceless platform has similarly curated exclusive cultural events worldwide. These partnerships are standard for high-demand events, given the immense fan interest expected for a 30-year retrospective. Given that Jay-Z's 2018 "On the Run II" tour with Beyoncé grossed over $250 million, industry insiders predict these shows will sell out rapidly, potentially breaking venue attendance records.
The "Jay-Z 30" title, which features an umlaut over the "Y" in his stage name, continues the anniversary theme that has shaped his 2026 concert calendar. The upcoming Yankee Stadium shows will specifically celebrate two of his most iconic albums: "Reasonable Doubt" (1996), his debut that introduced his streetwise narratives, and "The Blueprint" (2001), which solidified his status as a hip-hop titan with tracks like "Izzo (H.O.V.A.)". In contrast, his Philadelphia performance at the Roots Picnic offered a broader career retrospective, emphasizing the city's cultural contributions. During that show, Jay-Z was backed by the Roots, who had previously joined him for his 2001 "Unplugged" concert. Special guests included Philadelphia natives Jazmine Sullivan, Bilal, Freeway, and Beanie Sigel, highlighting the deep ties between the rapper and his hometown. The Roots, known for their role as the house band on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," have been instrumental in bridging hip-hop and live instrumentation since the 1990s, with their 1999 album "Things Fall Apart" earning critical acclaim.
Variety's Steven J. Horowitz praised the Philadelphia concert, writing: "Twenty-five years later, [Jay and the Roots’] creative synergy has only strengthened. The show was muscular, a one-off that brought them back together for a tour of Jay-Z’s catalog with the Roots’ ability to make precision look spontaneous. That much was hidden in the details — the interweaving of ‘I Just Wanna Love U (Give It 2 Me)’ and ‘Big Pimpin’,’ for instance, or the sudden switch from ‘Dirt Off Your Shoulder’ into ‘I Know’ — and was clearly a labor of love. Jay-Z himself acknowledged this at the end of the set: ‘We worked really hard to put this together.'" The exact format of the "Jay-Z 30" shows in Paris and Los Angeles has yet to be announced, but given the rapper's history of elaborate performances, fans can anticipate a carefully curated setlist spanning his three-decade career. Jay-Z, who became hip-hop's first billionaire in 2019, has consistently pushed the boundaries of live performance, from his 2003 "Fade to Black" retirement concert at Madison Square Garden to his 2017 "4:44" tour featuring holographic visuals. His business ventures, including the streaming service Tidal and the champagne brand Ace of Spades, have further cemented his legacy as a cultural innovator. Variety will provide further updates as details emerge.
