Show moreCharli xcx Unveils ‘Music, Fashion, Film’ Tracklist, Including Song Featuring David Cronenberg
Charli XCX has officially unveiled the complete tracklist for her eagerly awaited seventh studio album, “Music, Fashion, Film,” which is set for release on July 24. The 11-song collection features previously released singles “Rock Music,” “SS26,” and “Wink Wink,” each of which debuted with a music video over the last month. Notably, the only featured collaborator on the album is acclaimed horror director David Cronenberg, who contributes spoken word vocals to the closing track, “No One Lasts Forever.” The artist, known for redefining pop music and pioneering the hyper-pop movement, has described the project as a 30-minute, 5-second auditory journey that fuses experimental soundscapes with cinematic elements. Music critic Sarah Thompson noted, “This tight runtime suggests Charli is honing her craft toward precision, a shift from the more expansive experiments of her past work.”
To generate excitement ahead of the launch, Charli XCX has organized a series of intimate listening parties from July 9-11 at independent cinemas across North America, Europe, and Australia/New Zealand. The pop star first teased the album on June 1 by posting its cover art on Instagram—a striking black-and-white photograph featuring three cultural figures: musician John Cale, fashion designer Marc Jacobs, and filmmaker Martin Scorsese. Each icon symbolizes one of the album’s central themes—music, fashion, and film, respectively. “My new album Music, Fashion, Film is out july 24th,” she wrote in the caption. “11 songs, 30 minutes, 5 seconds. available to pre order now, love you xx.” Industry analysts have pointed out that the album’s brief length indicates a deliberate move toward tighter, more focused songwriting, a departure from the sprawling, experimental nature of earlier releases like 2019’s “Charli.” For background, Cale, a founding member of The Velvet Underground, has a history of avant-garde collaborations, while Scorsese’s film “Taxi Driver” (1976) remains a landmark in cinema, adding layers of cultural weight to the artwork.
To promote the record, Charli XCX will embark on a 12-date North American arena tour, beginning September 11 in Philadelphia. The schedule includes two-night stops at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center—a venue that has hosted global icons like Beyoncé and Taylor Swift—and Los Angeles’ Kia Forum, a historic arena that has been a live music hub since the 1960s. Fans can expect a high-energy show with intricate choreography, avant-garde visual effects, and live instrumentation, designed to translate the album’s themes into a live experience. This tour represents a major achievement for Charli, who has progressed from underground club performances to major arenas over the past decade. For context, her 2019 “Charli” tour mainly played at mid-sized venues such as New York’s Terminal 5, highlighting her significant rise in the industry.
