Show more‘Dance Moms’ Parody Musical Adds ‘Titaníque’ Director and Co-Creator Tye Blue to Creative Team (EXCLUSIVE)
Tye Blue, the director and co-creator of the Tony-winning musical parody "Titaníque," has officially joined the creative team behind "The Pyramid: An Unauthorized ‘Dance Moms’ Musical." This upcoming production is a fresh parody crafted by devoted "Dance Moms" enthusiasts James Stryska, Isabel Grace, Erica Molfetto, and Molly Russo. The lead producer is Logan Clark, a veteran with over 15 years of experience spanning television, music, live events, and theatrical production. Notably, Clark was part of the original "Dance Moms" production team during the show's early seasons on Lifetime. "Titaníque," which Blue helped bring to life, itself became a cult hit for its irreverent take on the 1997 film, demonstrating his knack for blending humor with stagecraft.
A Kickstarter campaign for "The Pyramid" launched on Monday, strategically timed to coincide with the 15th anniversary of the "Dance Moms" premiere on Lifetime. Blue will serve as an advisor and lead the writing team through their ongoing workshop process, leveraging his expertise in musical comedy and commercial theater development. The concept for "The Pyramid" originated when Stryska and Grace posted a simple idea online: "We think ‘Dance Moms’ should be a musical." That video quickly went viral, amassing over 5.6 million views and drawing enthusiastic responses from fans, theater professionals, and even members of the "Dance Moms" community. "Our goal has always been to bring the experience of watching an episode with your friends into a completely new medium," the four writers stated in a Monday release. "We’ve packed the show with the kind of moments you would swear came straight out of television while building an entirely new story for the stage."
Logan Clark's company, The Casting Collective, is spearheading a nationwide search for singers, dancers, and performers to originate the production. Supporting the show's development is Daisy Theatricals, a New York-based collective founded by Randall and Allyson Jane Simmons, known for nurturing offbeat theatrical projects. "There is something incredibly special about watching four writers take something they genuinely love and build an entirely new theatrical world from that shared experience," Clark remarked. "James, Isabel, Erica and Molly understand this audience because they are this audience. My job is to help protect that vision, assemble an exceptional team around them and help build ‘The Pyramid’ into the biggest, boldest and most entertaining production it can be." The musical aims to capture the chaotic energy of the reality series, which followed the intense world of competitive dance and the formidable coach Abby Lee Miller, whose own legal troubles and later return to television added layers to the franchise's legacy.
