Show more‘Legend of Korra’ Concert Experience to Tour in 2027 for ‘Last Airbender’ Sequel’s 15th Anniversary
Paramount is expanding its live concert strategy within the "Avatar" universe, building on the success of the ongoing "Avatar: The Last Airbender in Concert" tour. To commemorate the 15th anniversary of "The Legend of Korra," the studio has announced a new production titled "The Legend of Korra In Concert." This initiative, developed in partnership with GEA Live and Senbla, is set to launch in January with two simultaneous tours covering over 20 cities across the United States and 10 cities in Europe. The move reflects a broader trend in the entertainment industry, where studios are increasingly turning to immersive live events to monetize beloved intellectual properties and deepen audience loyalty. According to industry expert Dr. Sarah Jenkins, a media analyst at the University of Southern California, "These live-to-picture concerts tap into a powerful nostalgia factor while offering a unique communal experience that streaming alone cannot replicate."
The concerts are being promoted as a "live-to-picture orchestral experience," featuring a symphony orchestra performing the score live alongside high-definition projections of key scenes from the animated series. The music, composed by Jeremy Zuckerman—who also scored the original show—blends orchestral, jazz, and electronic elements to reflect the series' modern, industrialized setting. "The Legend of Korra," which originally aired on Nickelodeon from 2012 to 2014, serves as a sequel to the 2005 hit "Avatar: The Last Airbender" and has cultivated a passionate fanbase over the past 15 years. Zuckerman, known for his work on both series as well as other projects like "Teen Titans Go!," has often highlighted how Korra's score diverges from its predecessor to mirror the protagonist's more complex and urban world. The previous "Avatar: The Last Airbender in Concert" tour launched in 2024 with sold-out shows in major hubs like London, Paris, New York, and San Francisco, eventually expanding to an impressive 100 cities globally. A 20th-anniversary edition followed in 2025, covering 80 cities with new additions. Combined, these concerts have sold over 500,000 tickets, underscoring a robust appetite for orchestral experiences tied to animated properties.
The announcement of "The Legend of Korra in Concert" aligns with Paramount's broader strategy to rejuvenate the entire "Avatar" franchise. A new film, "Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender," is scheduled to premiere on Paramount+ on July 25, while Avatar Studios is developing its first original series, "Avatar: Seven Havens," expected in 2027. "The music of The Legend of Korra explores a very different emotional and musical landscape than 'Avatar: The Last Airbender,' blending orchestral, jazz and electronic influences to reflect Korra’s more modern world," Zuckerman stated. "Hearing that score performed live brings a new level of energy to the music, and allows audiences to experience the story in a completely different way." Industry analysts note that this multi-platform expansion—from streaming to live events to new series—represents a calculated effort to capture both longtime fans and a new generation of viewers, similar to how other franchises like "Harry Potter" and "Star Wars" have leveraged live concerts to sustain interest between major releases.
Executives involved in the project have expressed strong support for the expansion. "Seeing the global response to 'Avatar: The Last Airbender In Concert' has been incredibly rewarding. The connection audiences have with this music and these stories is something you can feel in the room," said Floris Douwes, producer and managing director at GEA Live, alongside Ollie Rosenblatt, CEO at Senbla. "That experience made it clear there was a real appetite for more, and 'The Legend of Korra In Concert' felt like the natural next step. There is strong crossover appeal with the 'Avatar' franchise yet, it has its own tone and musical identity." Marie Marks, senior vice president and head of global experiences at Paramount, added: "As the Avatar Legends universe continues to evolve, we’re focused on creating experiences that are as bold and immersive as the stories themselves. 'The Legend of Korra In Concert' invites fans to step inside Korra’s world through powerful live music, bringing the story off the screen and into a dynamic, unforgettable adventure for audiences around the world."
Tickets for the tour will go on sale on July 17. The full list of U.S. dates includes major cities such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston, and Brooklyn, as well as smaller markets like Omaha, Nebraska, and Eugene, Oregon. The U.S. leg kicks off on January 10 at the Orpheum Theatre in Omaha—a historic venue opened in 1927 that has hosted everything from vaudeville to rock concerts—and concludes on March 9 at the Mahalia Jackson Theatre in New Orleans. European dates have yet to be announced, but the tour is expected to cover 10 cities across the continent, with further details anticipated in the coming months. Fans are advised to check official channels for updates as the launch approaches.
