Tom Corson Promoted to Chief Operating Officer at Warner Music Group

Warner Music Group (WMG), a global powerhouse in both recorded music and music publishing, is orchestrating a significant shift within its executive ranks. Tom Corson, whose previous role combined the duties of Co-Chairman and Chief Operating Officer at Warner Records, has been elevated to the position of Group Chief Operating Officer. In this expanded capacity, he will oversee the company's worldwide operational strategy, a mandate that touches every corner of the business. It's a notable ascent for Corson, who first joined Warner Records in 2018 and has been instrumental in the label's resurgence over the past several years.

At Warner Records, Corson was a key architect of the company's commercial trajectory, guiding business development and long-term strategic planning. His roster of artists reads like a cross-section of contemporary music's biggest names, from legendary acts like Madonna and the Red Hot Chili Peppers to streaming-era stars such as Dua Lipa and Benson Boone. In his new role, Corson will report directly to WMG CEO Robert Kyncl, working in tandem with Aaron Bay-Schuck, who remains Co-Chairman and CEO of Warner Records during a transitional phase. This move is widely seen as an effort to consolidate operational leadership under a single, seasoned executive known for his ability to nurture artists and drive commercial growth. Notably, Corson's promotion comes at a time when the major labels are increasingly focusing on operational efficiency to navigate the complexities of a streaming-first market.

Corson described the promotion as "an honor," framing it as an opportunity to build upon the company's recent momentum. “It's an honor to step into this role during such a transformative era for both our company and the industry at large,” he stated, expressing gratitude to Kyncl for the opportunity and acknowledging Bay-Schuck and the Warner Records team for their partnership. He also voiced his enthusiasm for "turbocharging operations" and expanding opportunities for artists and songwriters. Kyncl, meanwhile, praised Corson as "one of the most dynamic, respected, and effective executives in the music business," crediting him with spearheading Warner Records' commercial revival. Industry analysts point out that this appointment reflects a broader trend among major labels toward tighter operational cohesion, a strategy that has become increasingly vital in an era dominated by streaming platforms and shifting consumer habits. The choice of Corson, who has a long history of working closely with artists, suggests WMG is betting on a leader who understands both the creative and commercial sides of the business.

In a separate but related development, WMG has announced that Armin Zerza, who held the dual titles of Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer, is stepping down immediately due to personal reasons. Zerza, who took over worldwide financial operations in May 2025, will remain with the company in an advisory capacity until the end of the year to ensure a seamless transition. The company has already initiated a search for a permanent CFO. In the interim, Lou Dickler, currently Senior Vice President, Global Controller, and Chief Accounting Officer, will take on the role of acting CFO. Kyncl thanked Zerza for his "outstanding business and financial leadership" during a period of significant change, wishing him well in his future endeavors. This dual executive overhaul marks a new chapter for WMG as it seeks to streamline its leadership structure and position itself for sustained growth in an increasingly competitive global market. The moves come as the company looks to build on its recent successes, including strong streaming growth and a renewed focus on artist development, which have helped it hold its own against rivals like Universal Music Group and Sony Music.
