Spotify Launches Fresh Finds Forward Program to Support Emerging Independent Musicians

Spotify has unveiled a new initiative, Fresh Finds Forward, designed to provide support and resources to approximately 10,000 independent artists annually. Any musician who lands on a Fresh Finds playlist from January 1, 2026 onward will be eligible to enroll in the program through Spotify for Artists.

Participants in Fresh Finds Forward gain access to a year's worth of benefits. For those based in the United States, this includes complimentary studio time at locations such as New York City's Electric Lady Studios—the legendary recording facility founded by Jimi Hendrix in 1970, which has welcomed artists ranging from Stevie Wonder to Taylor Swift. Additionally, members receive early access to select Spotify tools and features, mental health support, and six months of free therapy through BetterHelp, a leading online counseling platform.

Fresh Finds playlists have been a staple of Spotify for over ten years, having spotlighted more than 80,000 artists from 127 countries. Early alumni include Laufey, Clairo, Ethel Cain, and Omar Apollo. Since 2024 alone, these playlists have generated over 128 million new artist discoveries, and more than half of the musicians featured are subsequently added to other editorial playlists.

"Fresh Finds has always been about finding artists at a pivotal moment and helping them reach new audiences at the right time," commented Joe Hadley, Spotify's global head of music content and partnerships. "We spent years listening to what independent artists actually need, and those conversations shaped what this program would become. Fresh Finds Forward takes everything we've learned from a decade of discovery and builds a support system around it, so participating artists aren't just getting a playlist placement, they're getting the benefits, resources, and the community to make the most of that moment."

Some industry observers suggest this move could prompt competing streaming services to bolster their own efforts to court independent talent. As one music industry analyst noted, "Programs like this signal that platforms recognize the long-term value of nurturing artists early, rather than simply licensing their finished work." By offering tangible benefits from studio sessions to therapy, Spotify appears to be betting that deeper relationships with emerging musicians will foster loyalty and yield exclusive content down the line.
