Fontaines D.C. continues its momentum on Billboard’s charts. One week after the band scored its first overall leader with new album Dopamine Chamber, it adds its first radio No. 1, as “Marianne” rises a spot on the Adult Alternative Airplay chart dated Nov. 7.
The set’s lead single, released on County Love Train/XL Recordings/Beggars Group, reaches the top thanks to a 4% gain in plays in the Oct. 23-29-tracking week, according to Luminate.
The coronation caps the group’s steady climb at the format. Each of Fontaines D.C.’s six Adult Alternative Airplay entries has peaked higher than the one before it, with the band having come close to leading with its previous two singles:
“Marianne” also marks a return to No. 1 for XL Recordings. It earns the imprint its fourth leader at the format, following three from Adele (on XL/Columbia): “Rolling in the Deep” (for 14 weeks in 2011), “Rumour Has It” (one week, 2011) and “Hello” (four, 2015).
“Marianne” is also gaining on Alternative Airplay, where it holds at its No. 16 high for a third straight week, with a 5% gain in spins.
Dopamine Chamber debuted at No. 1 on the Oct. 31-dated Independent Albums, Indie Store Album Sales and Vinyl Albums charts. It also opened at No. 4 on Alternative Albums and No. 14 on the Billboard 200.
