Amy Winehouse’s Grammy-winning Back to Black album impacts the top 10 of four Billboard charts, following its 20th-anniversary reissue. The album re-enters the top 10 of Indie Store Album Sales (No. 3), Vinyl Albums (No. 4), Top Album Sales (No. 7) and Top R&B Albums (No. 7) (all charts dated Nov. 7). The project also jumps back onto the overall all-genre Billboard 200 at No. 42.
Back to Black peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 in 2008, following its big night at that year’s Grammy Awards, where Winehouse won record of the year, song of the year, best female pop vocal performance (for the album’s “Rehab”), best new artist and best pop vocal album (for Back to Black).
For its 20th anniversary, the album was reissued in a variety of options on Oct. 23, including an expanded version with previously unreleased b-sides, demos and a live concert.
Back to Black marked the second and final studio album from Winehouse before her death in 2011, and spun off the Billboard Hot 100-charting singles “You Know I’m No Good” and the No. 9 hit “Rehab.”
In the tracking week ending Oct. 29, Back to Black earned 16,000 equivalent album units (up 185%) in the United States, according to Luminate. Of that figure, 11,000 was in pure album sales (up 885%), with the remainder driven by streaming activity and track sales. (All versions of the album, old and new, are combined for tracking and charting purposes.)
Back to Black is among seven debuts or reentries in the top 10 of the latest Top Album Sales chart. The highest debut of the week belongs to Anderson .Paak and Cordae’s collaborative project Heavy Is the Crown (No. 2), while My Chemical Romance’s The Black Parade jumps 29-1 following its own 20th anniversary reissue.
