Oprah Winfrey to Headline Las Vegas Sphere With New Music and Arts Show ‘Aha’

Oprah Winfrey is set to make her debut in the realm of immersive entertainment with a live stage show at the Sphere in Las Vegas. The production, titled "Aha," will run for four performances over the weekend of April 2-4, 2027, with each show lasting two hours. Winfrey will appear in person to lead the audience through a program that includes Grammy-winning musician Jacob Collier, poet Ocean Vuong, recording artist Ajeet, gospel singer Wintley Phipps, and additional performers to be announced later. A press release describes the ticketed event as a "journey of light, sound, music, storytelling, nature and shared humanity."

The Sphere, which opened in September 2023 just off the Las Vegas Strip, seats 17,600 people and is renowned for its massive LED exterior and cutting-edge interior screens. It has already hosted notable residencies by U2 and Dead & Company. Developed by Madison Square Garden Entertainment at a reported cost of $2.3 billion, the venue ranks among the most expensive entertainment structures ever built, and its exterior display has become a recognizable part of the Las Vegas skyline, often featuring custom visual art. By choosing this venue, Winfrey joins a growing list of major artists exploring its unique technological possibilities. For instance, the Sphere's exterior screen, known as the Exosphere, has been used to showcase everything from promotional campaigns to interactive art installations, drawing millions of viewers both in person and online.

Winfrey has said her first visit to the Sphere inspired the project. In an announcement video, she recalled being awestruck by the venue's technological prowess: "My first time at Sphere, I was blown away by this high-tech marvel of sound and images." She then posed the question that became the show's foundation: "What if this magnificent space could take us to the edge of the universe and deep within ourselves for an immersive symphony of awe, wonder and joy? Aha! Join me for the ultimate aha moment at Sphere." A subsequent press release noted that the idea took shape while she attended U2's opening night at the venue, where she became captivated by its ability to foster self-awareness and human connection. "Creating this experience has felt like the culmination of what I've spoken about and worked towards my entire life," Winfrey said.

Tickets will go on sale September 25 at 10 a.m. PT, with prices starting at $145. The creative team behind the production includes musical director Max Richter, director Ethan Tobman, producer Baz Halpin, and writer Tarell Alvin McCraney, known for his work on the film "Moonlight." Stage designer Es Devlin and other artists have contributed original pieces to the show. As one industry expert noted, Winfrey's move into large-scale immersive entertainment mirrors a broader trend of celebrities leveraging next-generation venues to blend live performance with technological spectacle, a route already taken by individuals like Darren Aronofsky and Hans Zimmer. The term "aha moment" has a cultural significance that can be traced directly to Winfrey. She popularized the phrase during the 1990s on her daytime talk show, and by 2012 her influence led Merriam-Webster to officially include it in the dictionary. The entry defines an aha moment as "a moment of sudden realization, inspiration, insight, recognition or comprehension." Winfrey herself has compared these flashes to a "lightbulb, bing bing bing" sensation in which "the little hairs on your arms stand up."
