John Mayer Sets Sphere Residency for Spring 2027, Combining Full Band, Trio and Solo Sets

Las Vegas's Sphere will host John Mayer as a solo headliner for the first time, with a six-night engagement scheduled for April 2027. Mayer is no stranger to the venue's creative possibilities: he served as artistic director for Dead & Company's residencies there in 2024 and 2025, helping to shape their visual and theatrical identity. That partnership appears to have concluded following the death of Bob Weir in January of this year, yet Mayer's enthusiasm for fusing live music with cutting-edge stagecraft remains undiminished. The Sphere, a 17,500-capacity venue owned by Sphere Entertainment Co., opened in September 2023 and has since hosted residencies by U2, Phish, and the Eagles, all of whom have had to measure themselves against the immersive benchmark Mayer helped set. The venue's 160,000-square-foot LED exterior, the largest of its kind anywhere, has turned it into an unmistakable landmark on the Strip and reshaped expectations for large-scale concert production.

The six confirmed dates are April 8, 10, 11, 15, 17, and 18, all crammed into a single month. Additional shows could be added if demand mirrors that of previous Sphere residencies, which sold out repeatedly and frequently prompted extensions. What makes this run distinctive is its three-part format: Mayer will perform alone, with his full band, and with the John Mayer Trio. Normally, each of those configurations would anchor its own separate tour, so audiences may be treated to marathon, career-spanning sets reminiscent of Dead & Company's famously expansive performances. The John Mayer Trio, formed in 2005 with bassist Pino Palladino and drummer Steve Jordan, released the live album "Try!" and has reunited sporadically over the years. Palladino is a seasoned session musician whose credits include work with D'Angelo and Adele, while Jordan, a longtime Keith Richards collaborator, joined the Rolling Stones' lineup in 2021.

Tickets will roll out in stages. VIP packages go on sale first through Ticketmaster on Sept. 30, alongside Vibee packages that include accommodations at the adjacent Venetian Hotel. An artist presale begins Oct. 7, with registration available at JohnMayer.com. A SiriusXM presale follows on Oct. 8, ahead of the general on-sale on Oct. 9 at 10 a.m. PT via Ticketmaster. Standard tickets start at $129. The Venetian Resort, a Strip mainstay since its 1999 debut, has partnered with Sphere on residency packages since the venue opened. Las Vegas residencies have become a pillar of the city's entertainment economy, and the Sphere's arrival has only intensified the competition among venues vying for top-tier performers.

During his Dead & Company tenure, Mayer personally commissioned and directed visuals that earned widespread acclaim, setting a standard later Sphere acts have struggled to match. Both the setlists and the accompanying imagery changed nightly, ensuring that repeat attendees encountered something fresh each time. According to the residency announcement, Mayer intends to carry that philosophy forward, pledging shows that "combine immersive sound, visual spectacle, and sensory feedback to make each show a unique, unforgettable celebration." One industry observer summed it up bluntly: "Mayer understands that the Sphere isn't just a concert hall — it's a canvas, and he's proven himself one of the few artists capable of painting on it."
