Oasis Documentary ‘Don’t Look Back in Anger’ Sets Hulu, Disney+ Streaming Release Date

Disney+ and Hulu are set to premiere the documentary Oasis: Don't Look Back in Anger on October 9, marking the first time the Gallagher brothers have shared a stage in 15 years. The film focuses on Noel and Liam Gallagher, whose Manchester-formed band debuted in 1991 and became a defining force behind Britpop throughout the 1990s. Their 1995 album (What's the Story) Morning Glory? still ranks among the best-selling records in UK history. Given the long-running feud between the siblings, the possibility of any reunion had seemed remote, which explains the intense anticipation surrounding the project since its initial announcement. For context, Britpop was a mid-1990s British cultural movement that saw bands like Blur, Pulp, and Oasis fuse guitar-driven rock with distinctly British themes, and Oasis frequently found themselves at the center of the era's chart battles and tabloid drama.

Those who tune in will get far more than just the main feature. The streaming platforms are including new footage from a joint interview with the brothers, along with full performances of Wonderwall and Slide Away. Additional tracks will also make their debut through the platform release. Magna Studios handled production on the documentary, which hit cinemas across the UK and Ireland earlier this month following its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival. Founded in 1932 and held annually on the Lido, Venice holds the title of the world's oldest film festival and has become a preferred launchpad for high-profile music documentaries. The festival's growing reputation as a music-doc springboard reflects a broader industry trend: in recent years, titles like Amy and Summer of Soul have used Venice as a stepping stone to awards-season momentum and major streaming deals.

Angela Jain, Disney+ EMEA's content chief, called the rollout a landmark moment for the band's fanbase. "The great wait is over…as we now bring Oasis: Don't Look Back In Anger to as many people as possible through Disney+, and to be doing it with exclusive unseen footage too, is so exciting for fans," she said. She went on to describe the reunion as one of the most significant cultural events in recent memory, pointing to how deeply the documentary has resonated with audiences worldwide as they celebrate both the band and music itself through this emotional reunion story. Her remarks highlight how heavily the streamer is leaning on nostalgia-driven music content to draw in subscribers. Disney+ has increasingly invested in music documentaries as a subscriber-retention strategy, following the success of projects like The Beatles: Get Back and Taylor Swift's Eras Tour film, which demonstrated the pulling power of legacy acts and dedicated fan communities.

The film was put together by writer Steven Knight working with directors Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace, blending unreleased footage with extraordinary access to the once-estranged brothers. Knight, a British screenwriter, created Peaky Blinders and wrote the 2021 film Spencer, while Southern and Lovelace previously collaborated on the 2012 LCD Soundsystem documentary Shut Up and Play the Hits. Sam Bridger (Lewis Capaldi: How I'm Feeling Now) and Guy Heeley (Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man) served as producers, with Kate Shepherd, Marisa Clifford, Davud Karbassioun, Rob Stringer, Tom Mackay, Krista Wegener, Thomas Benski, Isabel Davis, and Tim O'Shea listed as executive producers. Sean Doyle, Disney+ EMEA's VP for unscripted, commissioned the project. Rob Stringer, one of the executive producers, is chairman of Sony Music Group, adding further industry weight to the production team behind the film.
